Don Mal is a serial entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience building high-growth B2B software companies in the financial planning and performance management space. He has co-founded three companies in the industry — Vena Solutions, Fluence Technologies, and Una Software.
Don co-founded Vena Solutions in 2011 and served as CEO for the company's first eight years, leading it through five consecutive years of triple-digit revenue growth to more than 300 employees and 700 customers worldwide. Vena has since surpassed $100 million USD in annual recurring revenue, earning elite "Centaur" status as one of Canada's most successful independent software platforms.
In 2019 Don co-founded Fluence Technologies, a cloud-native financial close and consolidation platform, and served as Executive Chairman through its acquisition by Anaplan, a Thoma Bravo portfolio company, in 2024.
Earlier in his career, Don held sales leadership roles at Softkey Software Products, Clarity Systems, and IBM, where he led global sales for the Cognos FSR division. He holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and completed Executive Education at Harvard Business School.
Don is also a co-founder of Wildfire Golf Club, named Best New Private Golf Club in Canada by Golf Digest, and once signed with a record label as a singer and guitarist.
